>> IDEA: MIRROR ROOM

(ala Through The Looking Glass, Vampire Legends)

Build a large victorian house which contains in one room a large mirror over a dormant fireplace.

But the mirror isn’t actually a mirror— it is a hole in the wall which opens into an identical room on the other side, hidden within the architecture of the house.

When someone looks in the mirror, they will see everything the same except they won’t be there. They can then climb up and ‘step through’ the mirror into the alternate room, and potentially explore the alternate reality grounds.

(Alternately, it may be cooler to put up glass over the window, so it really DOES look like a mirror, making the ‘no reflection’ effect more freaky. And place the mirror physically out of reach.)

(There would have to be objects placed on the mantle right in front of the mirror to sell the effect.)

IDEA: ACCOMPLIST

Craiglist for criminal masterminds looking to connect with people to help with their crimes.

IDEA: I want a pair of black-and-white glasses (that turn everything I see greyscale)

So when people say “You see everything in black and white” I can say “yeah” and let them try on my glasses

Also pictures of me will be really cool because my eyes will be monochromatic

IDEA: THIS IS NOT A CAMERA
I would create a camera whose guts live in the body of a constructed green apple.
Then I would wear a bowler hat and suit, so whenever I use the camera, I’ll look like a re-enactment of one of my favorite iconic paintings, René Magritte’s ‘Son of Man’

IDEA: FLASH BOOTH

Mike Kelberman builds cool photobooth installations using hacked image recognition technology.

“So could you build a photobooth that auto-detects nipples and takes a picture when it sees them?”

“I went to school to be able to do that.”

“Flash Booth. You flash it, it flashes you.

This is going to be osm.

>> IDEA: NEW HIGH-QUALITY ANIMATED GIF FORMAT

Gifs as a medium have far outgrown the limitations of gifs as a file format. Ever since I made my first one, I’ve long wished they could exist in high quality (gifs are limited to 256 colors). This is going to be necessary for them to make the leap they’re making as a respected art form. Some people try making vimeo loops, but those ‘jerk’ on the reset. Since there is no high-quality alternative that will work cross-browser, the solution is to create one:

To write a piece of code that will cycle through JPEGs or PNGs, but have a mask over it so right-clicking will save it all as one file (an equivalent gif or zip / etc).

Casey Pugh said it would be easy to do this as an iframe. (Here’s a picture of him dressed as an astronaut, so you know he knows what he’s talking about.)

IDEA: Excellent. As a frequent maker of gifs and recorder of moments, I would love to have this.

NEEDS: Someone with the proper developer skillset who cares enough to build it.

*Re: Replies I’m getting: APNGs are what I’m referring to when I say “there is no high-quality alternative that will work cross-browser”. If the format isn’t supported, as far as creators like me are concerned, it doesn’t exist.

IDEA: Chocolate Makerbot
Would be a collaboration between Makerbot and Mast Brothers Chocolate, of which Jake Lodwick is an investor in both.
Would love to do this. According to Michael Cirino, the extruder would have to heat the chocolate to 3 different temperatures, and the printing cage would have to be cooled so the new layers of chocolate don’t melt the old layers.
Imagine being able to print 3d chocolate versions of your head!
While the idea is over a year and a half old (see related tweets) this picture was drawn on June 21st.

IDEA: Recording Release T-Shirt
When you go to events, they sometimes have a big recording release form at the entrance. I want one at the entrance to my personal space.
NEEDS TO ACTUALIZE:

- Having an actual working wearable release written by a lawyer *(optional)
- Me getting off my ass and printing it.

IDEA: GIRAFFERS TAPE
Gaffers Tape (used regularly on photo and video shoots) with a Giraffe pattern. Because physical objects that have implicit puns are the best.
NEEDS TO ACTUALIZE:

- Someone who knows how to actually produce this.

IDEA: MUSIC NOTE CARTOON
*(needs a punny name.)
The night before I moved out of my loft, I broke in my new notebook: I took a 12x35-foot roll of white paper (technically a photo backdrop) and carried it from my studio down to the loft:

Tore open two new packs of magic markers, and unrolled it on the floor:

and stayed up all night going to town.
Paradise.
While drawing another idea (my favorite so far, no spoilers!) I drew a music note, and noticed that it looked kind of like legs.
Which immediately led me to procrastinate the idea I was working on to work on this new idea :)
The gag is that it would be a little music note, animated onto actual sheet music pages, which you would see rustling as the video progresses. The little guy walks along, climbing up and down the “stairs”, as the accompanying music plays the actual notes he’s hitting.
I could also eventually do a live version:

Just by wearing white jeans with black tape (inverted from my usual):

And as he goes along, he could run into another character:

They could be accidentally dissonant, and then eventually form a chord?
The real trick will be to get together with a composer who, unlike me, actually knows how to read sheet music, and to collaborate with them, crafting a narrative out of how different kinds of notes look and sound, to create a story AND a piece of music. The goal is to make a fun 3-minute video, at the end of which you will intuitively know how to read sheet music.

IDEA: Awesome
NEEDS: TO ACTUALIZE:

1. A musician collaborator who knows how to read sheet music.
2. An animator.

Disclaimer: Not all ideas happen, and not all that do happen fast. “Trapped in an iPhone” sat on a brainshelf for two years before it was finally made— in about 2 days. The purpose of posting ideas is so that they can exist as ends unto themselves— ideas, even free from actualization, are awesome.
